Moving can be traumatic

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

This week Craig Street Cats moved to a new webserver, and the journey has been a tad traumatic.  I think everything is in its proper place now, but if you find any whoopsies, please be sure to let me know.

It’s a very good thing that this move was completely virtual.  The poor cats have been trying to figure out why things are topsy turvey around here — schedules all out of whack, mom up all night working on the computer, less cuddle time (oh horrors).

We have some new additions around here.  While I’ve been working away on this site, some very caring people have been finding cats and kittens that needed rescuing.  Kathy brought in the 2 kittens that needed vet care, as well as a big, black tom cat that we’re calling Kettle.  The youngest kitten has been adopted already (Kathy couldn’t resist :) ).  Kettle and the other kitten have appointments for neutering coming up soon.

June called just before Christmas about some kittens she had been feeding for quite awhile.  She was concerned about how they would survive the winter, so we went out and rescued them on Boxing Day.  June was obviously doing a very good job of feeding the babies, because they are incredibly sturdy — tending toward pudgy.  They have appointments with the vet, as well.

Things are starting to get back to normal around here, so I should have some photos of the new arrivals by the end of the week.  I hope.

Felicity, mother of the 5 kittens trapped in May

This is Felicity. She was born under my next door neighbour’s front porch last summer, and is directly related to all of the “Lucky Craig Street Cats” referred to in the right hand column of the front page of this website. She is sister to Tia, and mother to Boots, Misty, and Mitten. She is also the mother of the 5 kittens currently living in my bathroom. Fortunately, Felicity will not be having any more kittens. She was spayed on May 16/08, and is residing on my front porch while she heals.

This photo really does not do justice to Felicity. She is a beautiful, long haired lady. Her coat is black and white, and very smooth. Green eyes, long, silky tail, and fashionable tatoo (#UA2135) all add to her allure.

A Barrel Full of Kittens

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Well, those 5 plump, little kittens I mentioned last week are now residing in my bathroom. They all seem to have a taste for sardines, and wandered into the trap on Tuesday.

This was the first little one into the trap.

These 3 posed like pros.

How could anything this cute bring bad luck?

Have you ever seen anything as adorable as this little fella? How could anything so cute bring bad luck?

This one is a tad shy.

I guess I’ll be fostering them for a while, since the Humane Society seems to have forgotten about agreeing to help out with any kittens I happened to catch. Darcy’s and Quagga are full, right now, so I’m playing mommy until a shelter can place them for adoption.

This is going to be a very expensive undertaking. Vet bills, shots, worming, any necessary medication, food, and litter will come to at least $500. Since the babies are not under any shelter’s jurisdiction, the full cost has to come out of my pocket. Donations of cash and supplies are desperately needed right now.

Kitten Season is Upon Us

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Well, kitten season is here. I was wondering when the babies would start appearing, and tonight I saw five very plump little kittens at my feeding station. They all disappeared under my next door neighbour’s front porch as soon as they saw me, so they must be related to my Tia (that’s where she was born last summer).

This is my week to trap, so I’m hoping to get all of the babies and their mom. With any luck they’ll all be off to the Humane Society and loving homes by next week.
