the bottom line

Monday, July 26th, 2010

As of today, we have 21 kittens in care.

21 kittens that need food, litter, vaccinations, vet care, deworming, spay or neuter, toys, etc.

2 of the kittens are bottle babies.

4 of the kittens are in the process of being weaned

Formula for the 6 that need it will cost more than $5o0 over the next month.

Preparing the bunch of them for adoption will cost well over $2500.

We currently have no money to care for these babies.  Zip.  Without immediate cash donations we cannot provide for the cats and kittens currently in care, and will not be able to accept any more kittens.

The bottom line:  we are broke.  We cannot pay for anything.  Up to this point I have used my personal resources to cover short falls.  My personal resources are now gone.  Craig Street Cats can’t continue without immediate help.

Thank you

The past month has been just a little overwhelming.  Craig Street Cats has been the recipient of some tremendous acts of generosity and kindness, and I would like to say “thank you” to everyone that has contributed food, supplies, money, time and effort to help us out.

Like the young couple who decided that they would rather make a donation to Craig Street Cats than give each other Christmas gifts.  Thank you.

Like the expectant mother who dropped off the largest donation we’ve ever had.  Thank you.

Like  the people who see me at our information table in Sobeys, or at craft shows and run over to hand me money “for your kitties”.  Thank you.

Like the people who drop things off anonymously, while I’m not home.  Thank you.

Like the children who put their candy money in our donation cans instead of buying candy.  Thank you.

Like the amazing volunteers who chauffeur the cats, and me, around because I don’t have a car.  Thank you.

Like the people who have sent cheques or donated online  to help the cats.  Thank you.

Like the pet store that has put out a bin and asked customers to donate food and supplies for the cats.  Thank you.

Because of all these people and all their amazing acts of generosity, we are in a much better position than we were a month ago.  Although we are still struggling, most of our bills are current, we have been able to put out 3 more shelters, we have materials on hand for at least 5  more shelters, and there is about a 2 week supply of food and litter on hand.  There’s even enough to make sure the cats get turkey for Christmas ;)

Our next hurdle is raising enough money to pay spay / neuter fees for the 20 kittens currently in care.  Somehow I just know we’ll do it.

Thank you.

Countdown to our 1st big fundraiser — time to start collecting stuff

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

One month to go.  On May 9 and 10 we will be having our first big fundraiser at R.A. Steen C.C., 980 Palmerston.  It’s a giant rummage and bake sale, with silent auction.

For those who might not know what a rummage sale is, it’s sort of like a garage or yard sale, without the garage or yard ;)

We’re ready to start accepting donations of gently used “stuff” for the rummage sale, new “stuff” for the silent auction, and special “stuff” to make into kid friendly items for Mother’s Day shopping.

If you’re cleaning out your garage or basement, please keep us in mind if you come across these sorts of things (in good repair, of course):

  • toys and games
  • books
  • small appliances
  • electronics (working stereo equipment, etc.)
  • cd’s
  • dvd’s
  • small pieces of furniture (sorry, we don’t have room for the dining room suite)
  • tools
  • picture frames
  • artwork
  • shelves / stands / entertaiment units
  • jewellry
  • children’s clothing
  • lawn furniture
  • dishes / cutlery / serving pieces
  • bric-a-brac / decorative items
  • holiday decor (Christmas, Hallowe’en, etc.)
  • camping equipment
  • sporting goods
  • bicycles
  • any other “stuff” that might be appropriate for a rummage sale.

We are also looking for business or corporate sponsors to help us with the silent auction and pre-event expenses.  We will happily add you to our sponsor board and list your business on this site if you can help us.  You can download our sponsor letter for an idea of the sorts of things we’re looking for.

Because this event is on the Mother’s Day weekend, we want to have a special table where children can shop for their mothers and grandmothers.  For this we want new items that can be combined into attractive gifts that the kids can pick out on their own.  Examples might be mother themed coffee mugs, decorative soaps, small photo albums, photo frames, sample size bottles of various toiletries, etc.   Donations of these types of items will be especially welcome.

Volunteers are needed to help out before, during and after the event.

Please email cats@wolseleygirl.com or call 223-6652 to arrange pick up or delivery of your donations, or to let us know that you want to help out.

Angels

Friday, March 13th, 2009

This has been a totally overwhelming month.  Angels have been appearing and drowing us with generosity.

To Donna, who has made 9 sets of itchy ears better, provided much needed food and supplies, and brought treats to an old dog that was feeling a tad neglected. . .

To Barb and Archie, who continue to provide all sorts of much needed supplies. . .

To June and Dan, who continue to bring food and litter. . .

To Cheryl and Jeff, who are providing an amazing amount of help for our rummage sale. . .

To Joel and Jessie, who provided an entire cat entertainment center. . .

THANK YOU.  You are all angels.
