Well, grant season is once again here, and we are in the running for a big one.  Craig Street Cats has been accepted into the Aviva Community Fund grant program, and we could earn a grant of up to $150,000 to open an adoption center.  We need your help to do it, though.

Online voting starts on Monday, October 3.  Please follow this link to read our grant proposal and vote for us.

Feral Felines Steal Prairie Feline Fanciers Show

Winnipeg, MB, September 25, 2011:  A group of feral cats and kittens quite literally stole the Prairie Feline Fanciers cat show this weekend.  In the large and highly competitive class, a contingent of former alley cats rescued by Craig Street Cats took 29 of 100 ribbons available for household pets.  In addition, three of ten judges selected one of the group as their choice for ‘best household pet’.

“These ribbons are very significant for feral cats in this city.” says Craig Street Cats founder, Lynne Scott.  “Our cats competed against a very large group of gorgeous felines, many of which are pure bred, and the judges saw them as just as deserving of praise as cats with long pedigrees.”

Scott went on to explain that the 2 cats and 5 kittens were entered to gain exposure and encourage adoptions.  “It’s important that people understand that these cats are just as cute and cuddly as any other cat, and that they make great pets.  The judges here seem to agree.”

Craig Street Cats is a non-profit organization working to humanely reduce Winnipeg’s free roaming cat population, rescue kittens, and educate the community about feral cats.  It was formed in 2008 in response to the many free roaming cats seen on Wolseley’s Craig Street during the winter of 2007 /08.

Community Outreach Project

September 14th, 2011 by Cat Lady

Craig Street Cats has reached the point where we can no longer accept feral colonies for direct mangement.  You might say that we are a victim of our own success, because we have been providing complete, direct management of all of the colonies we have accepted into our program.  This means we have trapped all the cats, rescued all the kittens, provided all the vet care, housed all the cats recovering from surgery, and provided food, shelters and supplies for every colony under our management.  We can no longer support this model.

Because of this we will be starting a community outreach project that will enable groups of neighbours to manage the feral cat colonies in their own areas.  CSC will provide training, equipment, and access to resources.  Neighbourhood groups will do the actual work, under our supervision.

Please watch this website for details of this project, which is set to launch in the new year.
