Another Grower Direct promotion

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Debbie at Grower Direct at 939 Portage Ave. is at it again.  This time she has an absolutely gorgeous Bamboo gift basket that she is donating as a fundraiser for Craig Street Cats.  Between now and Mothers’ Day every $2.00 donation will get a chance to win the basket.  So, drop by Grower Direct and get your name in for the draw!

Spay-Ghetti and no balls

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Well, our first spay-ghetti dinner was a huge success!  We served over 250 plates of amazing Olive Garden spaghetti and marinara sauce, handed out some terrific prize packages, and had a great time!  There were a few whoopsies over the course of the evening, but I hope I will be forgiven for my unintentional gaffes.

All told we raised close to $4,000 to care for free roaming cats.  Most of that will go for vet bills, with some left to fund this spring’s TNR project.  Thanks to everyone who came out, especially the amazing volunteers who helped with setup, serving and clean up.

another sad day

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Something that I will never get used to is the fact that seeming healthy kittens can just fall over and die for no good reason.  This morning I found Yogi dead in her pen.  She was fine yesterday.  She ate well, played with the other kittens, climbed me like a tree, purred like crazy.  This morning she was dead.  I don’t know why.

When I get very young kittens, it is really no surprise when one or two from a litter don’t make it.  They are usually in poor shape when they arrive, and it takes heroic effort to get them healthy again.  Yogi was different, though.  She had been here since November and was doing well.  She made it past the usual worming, upper respiratory, ear mites and poops.  She was past the 12 week danger zone, where kittens can just drop dead for no apparent reason.  She was growing quickly, and becoming a beautiful, long haired girl — but last night she died.
