Grower Direct partners with Craig Street Cats

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

I just had a very interesting conversation with Debbie from Grower Direct Flowers at 939 Portage Ave.  Debbie has been a big supporter since the first time I wandered into her shop asking for draw donations.  Today she made an incredibly generous offer.

For the month of December, 100% of proceeds from the sale of single roses will be donated to Craig Street Cats.  Soooo, when you’re in there getting your Christmas flowers and centerpieces, don’t forget to buy a single rose for someone special!  Guys, stop in on the way home and pick one up for your special someone.  Ladies, get one for your special person, too.  You’ll win major brownie points and help the cats at the same time!

Thanks Debbie.

It seems we’re famous again.  Charlene Adam, pet columnist for the Winnipeg Free Press, wrote an incredibly flattering article about Craig Street Cats and yours truly.  It appeared in today’s edition of the paper.  I first read the article over my morning coffee, and I’m still blushing.  You can read it here.

If you’re wondering about the critters in the photos, the handsome black and white fellow on my lap is Boots, and the little tabby in the background is Kieffer.  The kittens in the inset photo are the tinies.

Thank you Charlene.

Parliament supports UDAW

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Our parliament has unanimously adopted a motion to support the development of a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare.  This makes Canada the first North American nation to show support for this concept.  This is the first time in a VERY long time that I can honestly say that I’m proud of something Parliament has done.

The witch and orange tabby are none other than Shirley and Barbara from Friends Fundraising for Animal Shelters.  Of course, there were many others at the party:

The Olafsons contributed amazing decor and goodies.

Kathryn decorated the hall and created an amazing photo slide show of the cats that ran all night long.

Linda manned the fundraising table and did an incredible job!

Joanne and Donna worked the door — Thanks ladies!

One of our “wilder” guests, Jo.

One of the “Aristocats” made an appearance.

And Yours Truly as the momma cat from “Three Little Kittens”

It was a great evening, and we absolutely WILL be doing it again next year!
