Black Cat Ball, the Aftermath

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Well, our first ever Black Cat Ball is now history.  The evening was a lot of fun, we gave out a lot of prizes, and we made a little money.  Not as much as we had hoped, but we will be able to put a small dent in those vet bills.  Unfortunately, we won’t be buying a van any time soon.  We learned a lot from the planning of this year’s ball, and next year’s will be bigger and better!

I’m pretty sure that about a thousand photos were taken on Saturday evening, and some of them ARE going to find their way onto this site, but it might take a day or six for that to happen.  I’m still recovering from planning / decorating / cleaning / paying / balancing , so it’s about all I can manage to make sure the cats get fed on time.   Photos and details will get posted, I promise.  ;)

Counting Down: 1 more sleep, last chance for tickets

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Yikes!  One more sleep and it will be Black Cat Ball night.  I just can’t believe all the really, truly, amazing stuff that has been donated for this event.  You HAVE to come out and see it.   We’ve got home entertainment stuff, guy stuff, gal stuff, kid stuff, pet stuff, fun stuff, swanky stuff, food stuff, and stuff that can’t be categorized.

If you haven’t already got your tickets, you can still reserve your place by calling 223-6652.  We’ll put your name on the reservation list, and you can pick up your tickets at the door.  We can accept reservations up to 6pm the night of the Ball.

What are you waiting for?  Get on the phone and reserve your place!

Counting Down: 4 days to our 1st Black Cat Ball

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

It’s getting exciting around here!  Incredible prizes are pouring in from wonderfully generous people.  We have some BIG prizes, including a TV and DVD player, and some beautiful jewellry, as well as at least 12 gorgeous gift baskets, door prizes and costume prizes.  Plenty of shwag to go around!

We also have some WAY KEWL activities planned.  Remember Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots?  Well, we have the full size, grown up party version coming to the Black Cat Ball.  We can all have a turn and try to “knock his block off”!

I get so involved in planning these events, that I sometimes forget that not everyone knows why we need the money.  With that in mind, I thought I should make a list of what we’re planning to do with the $$$ raised, and why:

  • pay the vets.  We have some of the most understanding, generous vets ever.  They let us run a tab, and never get upset when we can’t pay off the entire bill.  That said, they need to eat.  They have bills to pay.  We need to pay them so that they can eat and pay their bills.  Right now, we owe them A LOT of MONEY.  The first thing we will do is pay them off.
  • pay off other outstanding bills.  Yep, we have them, and we have to pay them.
  • stock up on medications and supplies.  Things like ear mite, flea, and worm treatments, eye ointments, vaccines, syringes, fluid therapy, etc.
  • buy a used van.  We have been without transportation for several months, now, and it is costing us a fortune.  When volunteers are not available to transport cats to the vet, or take supplies to fundraising events, we have to use taxis.  This cannot continue.  We are looking for a reliable used van, born in this century, to get us back on the road.

That’s it.  A successful event will allow us to do those four things.  Please come out to support us.

Counting Down: 8 days to go

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Wow, only 8 more sleeps before our first Black Cat Ball.  Things are shaping up nicely, and we have some great things planned for the night.  You just won’t believe all the goodies we have lined up for the evening.  Special guest judges, incredible prizes, cool music, interesting activities, great food . . . .  The list goes on and on.

There are a few things we don’t have, yet:

  • Hallowe’en goodies.  What’s a Hallowe’en party without goodies?
  • munchies.  We need potato chips, pretzels, etc. to put out on tables

If you can donate any of these items please give me a call at 223-6652.

Just a reminder:  if you don’t have your tickets yet, please make sure to buy them ahead of time, or call to place your name on the reservation list.    You can get them online — just click the cat in the pumpkin — or call 223-6652
