Numbers climbing

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

I knew it was too good to be true.  For a couple of weeks our numbers were actually going down.  We were down to 11 cats and kittens in my house.  That was short lived.  As of today, we’re back up to 14.  Three kittens arrived today.

Mortimer, who is about 6 months old, is returning.  He first came in as a feral kitten and was neutered, then returned to the person who brought him in.  He is back because he needs to be rehomed.

The other two are about 4 months old.  They were found on Bannatyne and brought to me while I was manning our fundraising booth at Health Sciences Center this afternoon.  Both babies are emaciated.  They have serious ear mites, and minor URI.  One of the boys has frozen ears and a broken tail.  Surgery will be needed to amputate the tail at the break.

What is heartbreaking is that these kittens are all social.  This means that they have had lots of exposure to people.  They were probably all owned and abandoned.

Friday

Friday

This handsome fellow is named Friday, because he arrived on Friday the 13th.  Friday should be a beautiful, silvery, long haired boy, but his coat is terribly matted.  He has been systematically ripping the mats out ever since he arrived.  If you look closely, you can see part of the huge bald spot close to his hind leg.  Friday’s entire belly is now bald.

In addition to his bald spots, Friday is recovering from a nasty wound on his front shoulder.  He was on antibiotics for 10 days — I can’t tell you how much fun it is to get pills into a feral cat ;)

In spite of his obvious trauma, Friday is adjusting well, and will be neutered on April 3.  I’m hoping that’s in time for my bathroom to recover from hosting a very stinky boy cat.  Friday may be confined to one room, but, unfortunately, his stink isn’t.  :(

fosters and new arrivals

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Lucky and Honey have moved into foster homes.  Lucky went home with Sasha and Mike, on Saturday, while Honey went to stay with Susan this afternoon.  I’m sure everyone will be thrilled with these changes.

Friday was an interesting day.   It started off with an amazingly generous donation from Donna, and ended with the arrival of a new resident.  Of course, his name is Friday, because he arrived on Friday the 13th.  The poor fellow was very beat up, and made a quick trip to the vet, where he got cleaned up and put on antibiotics.  I’ll have pictures soon.

Angels

Friday, March 13th, 2009

This has been a totally overwhelming month.  Angels have been appearing and drowing us with generosity.

To Donna, who has made 9 sets of itchy ears better, provided much needed food and supplies, and brought treats to an old dog that was feeling a tad neglected. . .

To Barb and Archie, who continue to provide all sorts of much needed supplies. . .

To June and Dan, who continue to bring food and litter. . .

To Cheryl and Jeff, who are providing an amazing amount of help for our rummage sale. . .

To Joel and Jessie, who provided an entire cat entertainment center. . .

THANK YOU.  You are all angels.
